2x4 paws in Porto - part 2

Writer's picture: o mundo dos cãeso mundo dos cães

So it took four times two meals to arrive to Porto from Budapest. Mázli practically slept all the way as usual. She thinks the car very pleasantly rocks her. I don’t agree with that. It does not rock but shakes and you can never know what would happen in the next moment. Besides, I was taken by car to the shelter, too...so it’s best to stay alert in cars.

Anyway, the first day of our trip wasn’t too bad. We spent the night with friends of my humans who live close to the Hungarian-Slovenian border. They have a lovely big garden, there are sheep and chicken in the neighbourhood who we can bark at as much as we want. And most importantly they are very decent people who know well (unlike my impossible humans!) that the best bites from their plate should go to the dogs waiting at their feet.

The next day the real journey started. For hours and hours we went up and down through Slovenia. When we finally stopped we were already in Italy. The first stop was just horrible. There was a storm chasing us almost as fast as I chase balls. A thunderstorm hit us so we had to jump back to the car and leave as quickly as we could. Have I mentioned that I hate thunders?

Luckily we were faster than the rain but we got into a windstorm and were driving all the way in side wind. What was worse than the storm was the screaming of my humans. I obviously was only decently whining from time to time. They, on the other hand, couldn’t stop cursing the trucks overtaking other trucks that were at the same time overtaking coaches.

It was late and dark when we finally arrived to a place called Savona. People were extremely friendly with us there. Right at the check-in we received ear-rubbing and petting and more importantly we had divine dinner in a nearby pub. A kind man served us before our humans, feeding us from his hand. He kept saying “calma” and “piano” but I am sure it was simple bread that he gave us. Anyway, it was really tasty. We also got very small bites of some pink fish-like thing. My humans said it was shrimp. I didn’t want to take it at first (have I mentioned that I am not a fan of novelties?) but Mázli obviously swallowed it without chewing. I also tried it at the end. I think I can get used to it.

We went to the sea the next morning for a walk. I had never seen so much water before in my whole life! It was fabulous! Great selection of fish snacks on the shore, lovely soft sand, great for running and rolling about, and the waves tickled my paws. I had a surprisingly good time, although I am normally not a big fan of water.

Unfortunately we only had a short walk but my human told me that we were heading to an even bigger water, the ocean. I consider myself to be a tolerably intelligent dog but I couldn’t picture it, I have to admit.

So we got back in the car and the shaking and turning started again. We were on our way to a place called France...
