2x4 paws in Porto - part 4

Writer's picture: o mundo dos cãeso mundo dos cães

We left far behind the steep hotel and the forbidden park when My Humans realised that they hadn’t have breakfast. How can anyone forget to eat? It is a mystery….So they bought some bread and cheese. When we started our breakfast I felt for a second that there is hope for My Humans’ smelling talent. I have never in my life smelled a cheese as finely stinky as the one we had that morning. They told me it was roquefort.

The rest of the morning was flat. We drove through a place called Meseta. The sun was shining beautifully but other than this it was empty. There weren’t even odours.

We stopped in a city called León in the afternoon and had a great walk. We met a few local dogs. They were interesting characters. We finished our walk at a huge square where My Human took a picture of us. We look good in front of the building.

The evening was adventurous, though. To reach our hotel we had to leave the nice flat highway. As the roads became steeper and narrower we drove slower and slower. After a while My Humans whined with me and at the end, there was dead silence in the car but I smelled their fear. It was upsetting, to say the least….Finally, we arrived to our hotel and I have to say that this was one of the few occasions when it was worth suffering. Everyone was absolutely sweet. We were kindly welcomed (petting, etc) we could even enter the restaurant and almost every guest gave us a few bites from their food.

There was an enormous garden behind the hotel and after three long and tiresome day, I and Mázli could have a proper run and play. The hotel was surrounded with mountains covered with never-ending forests where the smells were unknown and alluring. I was really sad to say goodbye to this enchanted place the next morning.

My Humans told me that we would not stop until we reach our new home.

Another rollercoaster journey started and suddenly My Humans started clapping and screaming. We entered Portugal. The screaming even woke Mázli up and for the rest of the trip, she was staring out the window with me. We realised happily that there were forests all around. But the nicest surprises awaited us in our new home. We have a garden! We can run up and down in front of the house! There are great smells in the air: the ocean, goats, sheep and cats! And the best of all: my good old friend, Rozi the golden retriever also lives here! She hasn’t changed a bit!

We had a long and exciting journey until we reached our new home but I smell it was worth it and there are many more adventures waiting for us here. We will keep you posted.
